Ohio Deflection Association: Goals and Objectives

Statewide goals

  • Promote the creation of public safety led diversion programs such as Community Outreach Team and outreach teams throughout Ohio and nationally.
  • Develop and encourage the use of best practices and evidence-based models in the implementation of these programs.
  • Advocate at the local, state, and federal level for necessary legislation and sustainable funding.
  • Facilitate greater coordination and networking between public safety led diversion programs.
  • Raise public awareness to promote these programs and reduce the stigma of substance use and the professional belief systems that inhibit their creation.
  • Facilitate annual training and create a certification process for these programs.
  • Develop strategies to enhance community partnerships and evolve existing belief systems.
  • Advocate and support greater integration and use of peer supports and peer recovery coaches.

Objectives

  • Bring awareness, education, and prevention to different areas throughout Ohio and the nation.
  • Establish standardized guidelines to enhance public safety response to community safety needs.
  • Standardize methods for implementing community partnerships.
  • Create best practices for Community Outreach Team and outreach teams.
